We are looking for a candidate to serve as a Researcher.
Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Researcher is responsible for conducting social science research and evidence-gathering activities across our after-school and out-ofschool (ASOST) programs for K-16 students, including educational sessions/activities for their parents and for our postsecondary ESL (English as a Second Language) program.
Specifically, the candidate will design and conduct quantitative and qualitative/mixed method and multimethod data-gathering (e.
g.
, surveys, focus groups, one-to-one interviews, field observation), manage, analyze, and interpret the data gathered.
The candidate will also know how to work with information management systems and support the design and implementation of evaluation studies for our ASOST programs.
Other important duties include doing literature reviews and online searches, as needed, and writing reports on the data gathered for funders and various stakeholders.
Candidate must be a supportive, positive, and energetic participant in implementing outcomes measurement systems.
Also, demonstrated interest in K-16 education-related topics, working with culturally diverse communities, and health/social equity issues
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of evaluation and research theories and methods to apply them to assigned projects.
Work closely with the LEI senior leadership to manage an integrated framework for data collection, management, and related learning efforts across our programs.
This includes increasing staff knowledge in data collection, interpretation, and reporting.
Design and manage the technical aspects of research initiatives to evaluate our programs' outcomes.
This includes customizing and maintaining data collection and storage systems for qualitative and quantitative data sets to monitor and track performance, including cleaning, sorting, aggregating, disaggregating, and coding and recoding data.
Previous use and knowledge of performance management software, especially Quickbase, are a plus.
Outside organizational partners could provide data to add to our data sets, including local, state, and national assessment data, to inform the delivery of high-quality educational services.
Contributes to or leads literature reviews on relevant topics, including research on the Internet as needed for reports and proposals.
Design and modify, as needed, quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments (e.
g.
, surveys, questionnaires, observation) to increase the capacity to measure and document the needs of participants and the efficacy of organizational interventions to keep improving our services and programs.
Analyze and interpret data and make inferences and conclusions to inform about the impact of programs.
Assist in grant and report writing by providing the data needed to support the proposal or reports (e.
g.
, determination of need).
Produce high-quality deliverables such as technical reports for management and funders (e.
g.
, visual representation of data, like charts and graphics to synthesize/summarize data and programs' input and outcome information).
Communicate orally and in writing to a lay audience to present research results via PowerPoint presentations, executive summaries, and factsheets.
Be on top of emerging quantitative and qualitative data collection and evaluation methods, including and prioritizing participatory methods (e.
g.
, Participatory Action Research).
Attend internal and external meetings as needed.

Qualifications:
Must have strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills and is an open-minded critical thinker.
Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with different stakeholders, including public school system administrators, program directors, teachers, parents, and youth.
Valid driver's license/state ID and transportation necessary for some outreach activities.
Knowledge and experience in:
Designing and carrying out quantitative and qualitative research and evaluations.
Data collection and management systems.
Previous use and knowledge of Quickbase software are a plus.
Designing and modifying quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
Analysis, interpretation, and communication of data/research results to internal and external audiences, including communicating technical information in a way understandable to non-technical audiences.
Outstanding technical report writing.
Learning quickly new software programs, especially data/information management software.
Organizational and research project management.
Education:
Master's degree with at least 1 or 2 years of relevant work experience in social science research and evaluation.
Particular interest in those involved or specialized in youth issues and education.
Also, a Ph.
D.
or Master's degree student currently completing a social science degree and particularly interested and focusing on research methodologies and evaluation methods.
