Some duties may include:
Maintain all equipment in clean and proper working conditions. Evaluate hearing aid's function and fit. Properly and safely use equipment and tools necessary in fabricating and modifying earmolds. Safely remove cerumen, debris and other materials from the outer portion of the auditory canal. Provide training to improve performance including correctly inserting the hearing aid, adjusting volume controls, operation of buttons, etc. Communicate with patients who are hearing impaired and have communication disorders. Check and certify that hearing aids are received and functioning properly. Make timely determinations regarding veteran's eligibility for benefits. Record and prepare all necessary paperwork for hearing aids to be returned for repair. Ensure that clinic records are current and that reports and information are entered in the medical record. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for routine repair of hearing aids. Perform maintenance services, such as changing of batteries, cleaning of electrical contacts, removal of impacted cerumen, replacing earmold tubing, and inspecting and replacing cords. Precision in the use of equipment to alter the acoustical characteristics of sound in earmolds and hearing aids. Make earmold impresions. Responsible for taking audiology case histories and preparing patients for admittance. Maintain an adequate supply of materials and assistive devices by performing weekly inventory management. Accurately enter audiometric data into applications such as NOAH database. Properly document all interactions in the medical record in the form of clinical progress notes. Maintain clinic records in accordance with service line and medical center requirements. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have graduate level education directly related to the work of the position. OR, You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The incumbent must have the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. There must also be a high degree of eye-hand coordination when working with small components associated with the hearing aids. Work Environment:
The work is primarily performed in the Audiology clinic but on occasion the incumbent may be required to provide services in other locations of the Medical Center, such as the Community Living Center (CLC). The areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. A high degree of care is necessary in working with equipment which presents a shock hazard or possible sticks or lacerations from the use of sharp tools, drills, and polishers. The eyes are protected against flying debris during these activities. May come in contact with ill or diseased patients and periodically may handle equipment returned from veterans with contagious diseases. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
